Within the Kalinago Territory, calabash are carved with creative and traditional designs on them. This large gourd-like fruit is first harvested and then goes throuogh a process of drying and smoking giving it the rich color and hardness. The artist does each design free hand and with a simple knife and screwdriver.
The calabash can be used both as eating utensils and as decorations. Calabash as wall decorations are pictured below.
