Jim Bowie died at The Alamo defending the freedom of Texas with his now-infamous hand-made knives.  This knife is considered to be a traditional coffin-handled Bowie-style knife.  Coffin-handle relates to the shape of a coffin. The handle on this particular knife is made from cocobolo wood with 6 brass pins peened in place securing the handle that will never, ever come off.  The Cocobolo was purchased from a sustainable source.  Cocobolo is a tropical hardwood of Central American trees belonging to the genus Dalbergia. Only the heartwood is used; this is typically orange or reddish-brown in color, often with a figuring of darker irregular traces weaving through the wood. The blade was cut from 3/16 inch stock of 440C stainless steel, hardened and tempered to its maximum capacity while maintaining its edge.  This knife was created to be used; honing it after hard, arduous use will maintain its keen edge. Available for custom orders.
